Toile de fond is inspired by the silk backdrops used by artists of the past. Great swathes of silk would used to add drama, depth and dimension to the confines of the painting room whilst never overwhelming the subject.
Toile de fond is intended for this very purpose, with subtle rouches created by tension in the stripes, it is intended to introduce texture and depth where needed, appearing almost plain from a distance and never dominating a room.
